Shopify Welcome Discount Not Sending? Check These 4 Steps

4 min readUpdated September 14, 2026By Merchant Shortlist editorial desk

The short answer

Check each part of the promise: did the form save the signup, did the email send, did it arrive, and did the code work? A broken discount and a missing email need different fixes. Start with our welcome discount checker. Then choose one app to handle that welcome message.

In this guide

Start with one signup

A candle shop offers 10% off. A shopper joins the list but sees no code. That does not tell us which part failed.

Pick one test signup you control. Note the form, time, and what the screen said. Check the form record before changing any email rules. If you use Shopify Forms, open that form and view its submissions.

Use the welcome discount checker to sort what you know. It guides your checks; it does not log in to your store.

Check what starts the email

A trigger is the event that starts a message. It may be a new email signup or a form being sent. These are not always the same thing.

Ask: was this person already on the list? Did they join through your popup, checkout, or another app?

Shopify says its Customer subscribed to email marketing trigger does not work with third-party forms. Its welcome discount template also excludes checkout signups. Check which rule your store uses before blaming the email text.

Find out whether it was sent

Look in the sending app for this test message. Check whether it was sent, skipped, waiting, or failed. The reason shown there is more useful than a guess.

A message marked sent still may not appear in the main inbox. Check spam and other inbox tabs. A spelling error in the signup can also send you down the wrong path.

Do not keep adding welcome rules while you test. Two active rules may create a second problem: two offers for one signup.

If the email arrived, check the code

Open the link from the test email. Put an allowed item in the basket. Check the minimum spend, dates, and which shoppers can use the code. Shopify lets you set customer eligibility for discounts.

A code for first-time buyers may fail for someone who has bought before. A code for one item may fail on another. Match the words on your form to those rules.

Use our offer calculator before making the discount bigger.

Give one app the welcome job

myuser.ai forms can connect a signup offer and form answers to personal follow-up. Choose the offer, design, and channels, then check the form follow-up controls.

For ongoing messages, myuser.ai uses products, visits, carts, and orders to decide, write, schedule, and send. You do not build a flowchart for each shopper.

It will not repair a separate Shopify rule or switch off another app for you. Choose which app should send each welcome message.

Test the whole promise once

Try the same path a new shopper will use. Submit the form, read its success message, find the email, and use the code.

Then test the path for someone already on your list. Decide what that person should see. Keep the offer clear even when no new welcome email is due.

Use the myuser.ai email reviewer to check the draft. It can help with the words. You still need to test the real form, link, and discount.
