Shopify App Charge After Uninstall? Check These Dates

4 min readUpdated September 14, 2026By Merchant Shortlist editorial desk

The short answer

An invoice can arrive after you uninstall an app for a charge made before you removed it. Check the app's billing period and the invoice date. Uninstalling stops future Shopify-billed cycles, but may not clear an existing charge. A separate subscription paid outside Shopify needs its own cancellation.

First, find the exact charge

A merchant on Shopify Community saw a charge weeks after removing an app. That timing was upsetting. It did not tell us which dates the charge covered.

Open Settings, then Billing. Check current charges and past bills. Is this a pending charge or a paid bill? Save the app name, amount, bill number, and date.

Use the store decision worksheet to make a short bill timeline. It gives you a clear record to print or send with your request.

A made-up billing timeline
  1. 01June 10

    The charged app period starts.

  2. 02June 12

    The app is uninstalled.

  3. 03June 20

    The Shopify invoice arrives.

Write down five dates

Find when you approved the paid plan, when any app trial ended, when the charged period began, when you uninstalled, and when the invoice arrived.

Check the trial terms you accepted. Was it a free plan or a short trial of a paid plan? Which charge did you approve? Save that screen or email if you have it.

Shopify's app history can help confirm removal. A date you remember and a saved record may differ. Use the record.

Two billing clocks can overlap

Shopify explains that app cycles and Shopify invoice cycles can differ. A charge already made may reach a later bill.

Here is a made-up example. An app period starts June 10. You uninstall June 12. The Shopify invoice arrives June 20. The later invoice date alone does not show that the app started a new period after removal.

Ask which period the line covers. Usage charges may cover earlier use too. This example does not prove that your charge is right; it shows what to check.

Did Shopify bill it, or did the app?

Check who sent the receipt. Some apps charge outside Shopify. Removing the app does not cancel that separate payment agreement. Follow the app's cancellation steps and save its confirmation.

Removing a popup from your theme is not the same as uninstalling the app. Confirm the app's status in Shopify. Before removing an app you still use, save needed data and check what store features depend on it.

Send a clear request for review

For a third-party app, contact its developer. If it is no longer in your app list, use its App Store listing. Shopify's refund guidance separates third-party apps from Shopify's own apps.

Try this: Please review the [amount] charge on invoice [number]. I approved the plan on [date], the trial ended on [date], and I uninstalled on [date]. Which billing period does this cover? Please review it for a credit or refund.

Attach the records. A refund is not promised. If you cannot identify the charge, ask Shopify Support to help trace it. Keep the reply with your app budget.
